This conference on Emerging Energies Technologies takes an unbiased look at how the United States can make the transition from dependency on carbon-based fuels to a sustainable alternative fuels-based future. In this program Nobel laureate Alan Heeger of UCSB and Joan Ogden of UC Davis give their perspectives on renewable energy. Researchers in Jerusalem for the Israeli company Yissum have developed super simple, sustainable, organic electric batteries which are powered by treated potatoes. The new potato battery research has recently been published in the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy. The apparently highly efficient battery is made from zinc and copper electrodes and a slice of boiled potato. The act of boiling the potato increased the electric power around 10 fold in comparison to an untreated potato, [...]

In a speech to the Economic Club of Kansas City on June 23, 2010, NREL Director Dan Arvizu takes a realistic look at how renewable energy can help reduce America's dependence on oil, pointing out that the country gets as much energy from renewable sources now as it does from offshore oil production. For more information: www.hopeforachange.net This documentary about how people and communities using Renewable Energy provides hope that we will achieve a sustainable future. This hope is a natural result of the ability of renewable energy to replace non-renewables like fossil fuels and nuclear energy. Hope for a Change sets the stage for a world where political and social autonomy is possible, energy crises are history, climate change is halted, and oil/nuclear [...]
