Israel’s high powered potato

Researchers in Jerusalem for the Israeli company Yissum have developed super simple, sustainable, organic electric batteries which are powered by treated potatoes. The new potato battery research has recently been published in the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy. The apparently highly efficient battery is made from zinc and copper electrodes and a slice of boiled potato. The act of boiling the potato increased the electric power around 10 fold in comparison to an untreated potato, giving it power for days, and sometimes weeks depending on the conditions. The potato batteries are also, of course, considerably cheaper than regular commercial battery cells. The technology has officially been made available free of charge to the developing world.

  1. And to think the world can’t see how God is using his chosen Nation as an example of what we should be…

  4. This is a very old idea… I’ve got an old childrens potato clock set here. But I think the boiling a potato (and verifying it’s far more powerful) is a newer concept.

The original idea, zinc and copper electrodes in potatoes, works on all fruits and even coca cola (soda drinks). I tested it ;)

For some reason I never realized how useful it will be for the developing world… shows how even environmental people sometimes don’t realize how simple some solutions are.
